Instituted by Late Dr. T. M. Hynniewta, retired Deputy Director, Botanical Survey of India in the year 2009. The award is meant for the lifetime achievements by the senior taxonomists. The first recipient of the award was Dr. Debendra Bijoy Deb in 2010, who has unforgettable contribution for the botany of NE India. Ms. Rebecca Pradhan from RSPN, Bhutan received the award in 2011 and Dr. Amar Singh Chouhan, formerly of Botanical Survey of India received the award in 2012

Dr. Chandra Ghosh is now working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Tea Science, North Bengal University, West Bengal. This award is meant for persons aged less than 40 years. Members of EHSST working in floristics and related fields will be selected for this award. Dr. Anzar A. Khuroo, Assistant Professor of Botany, Kashmir University, Srinagar, J&K was the first recipient of this award
Instituted in 2014 by Dr. Somnath Bhowmik, presently teaching in Maharaja Bir Bikram College, Agartala, Tripura – a promising former student of Dr. Badal Kumar Datta, Professor of Botany, Tripura University. The age limit for the award is 55 years. Members of EHSST working in ethnobotany and related fields are eligible for the award. Dr. P.R. Gajurel of North Eastern Institute of Science & Technology, Nirjuli, Arunachal Pradesh was the first recipient of this award
EHSST decided to honour Dr. Kanchi N. Gandhi and his wife Kashturi Gandhi remembering their contribution for the understanding of Plant Nomenclature in much better way. The award is not restricted to EHSST Members. The award also includes a cash prize along with a memento and a certificate. Also, there is no age limit for this award. Any Indian scientist working on Plant Nomenclature is eligible for the award. First year in 2021, Dr. Suchandra Dutta of R.D. National College, Mumbai received the prize. She was followed by, Dr. Subir Bandyopadhyay, retired Scientist, Botanical Survey of India for 2022
Initiated in 2021 by Dr. K.N. Gandhi, the internationally known Plant Nomenclature expert and was supported by Prof. K. S. Bawa. Participants for this competition of oral presentation of original research works should be the Natural or Life Members of EHSST, with a age limit of 30 years. Awardees will receive a Certificate and a cash prize. Dr. Shruti Kasana of Delhi University was the first recipient (2021) of the prize and she was followed by Miss Pyonim Lungphi of Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh for 2022
